NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no affiliation with a government body. Neither it nor its advertising partners offers a service for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or another purpose governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The site is a Lyon County, Iowa record-reference resource, not a private investigator or consumer reporting agency.
1. What This Website Is
Lyon County Criminal History is an independent reference site. It does not hold official records, submit filings, retrieve government files, or perform official background checks.
Its pages point to the Lyon County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI, Iowa Sex Offender Registry, and other official sources. Some pages also connect to outside search services. Those organizations operate separately.
2. Rules for Using This Site
By using the site, you agree not to:
- Violate federal, Iowa, or local law
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or intimidate anyone
- Use content in a credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decision
- Attempt unauthorized access to any system
- Use bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools
- Disrupt service or prevent another visitor’s access
3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination
Information from this site or a linked service may not be used to stalk, threaten, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against a person. Iowa Code chapter 692A controls public use of Iowa Sex Offender Registry information and provides penalties for unlawful conduct. The registry supports safety awareness. It does not authorize vigilantism, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.
4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency
We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or background checks. Our partners do not provide services here for screening job or housing applicants, pricing insurance, or judging credit. You may not use site or linked-tool information to:
- Make a hiring or firing decision
- Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
- Set insurance terms or assess creditworthiness
- Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
- Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose
When a regulated check is required, use Iowa DCI’s proper official process or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.
5. No Legal Advice
Site content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how an Iowa charge, conviction, warrant, registry duty, or expungement rule applies to a particular person. Seek advice from a licensed Iowa attorney.
6. No Warranties
The site is provided “as is.” No warranty is made that:
- Content is always complete, accurate, or current
- Every page will remain continuously available
- The service will be free from errors or security defects
- An outside search result will be complete or correctly matched
Criminal records change as cases are filed, amended, dismissed, expunged, or updated. Nothing here is an official statement by the Lyon County Sheriff, Iowa court, DCI, or another government office.
7. Third-Party Services and Links
Links may lead to government sites, legal resources, or outside search services. We do not control their content, availability, prices, data practices, or terms. Review the destination’s rules before using it.
8. Intellectual Property
Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Lyon County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, changed, distributed, or used to create another work without prior written permission.
9. Limits on Our Liability
To the fullest extent Iowa law permits, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from site use, including reliance on content or an outside service.
10. Indemnification
You agree to protect and hold us harmless from a claim, demand, or legal action caused by your site use or violation of these terms, including related legal costs and fees.
11. Governing Law
Iowa law governs these terms. Any dispute tied to site use must be filed in a court located in Iowa. Government record access remains governed by applicable law, including Iowa Code chapters 22 and 692.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these conditions. A revised version becomes effective when posted on this page.
13. Cutting Off Access
Access may be limited or ended at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.
14. Severability
If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected term will be adjusted only as needed to make it enforceable.
15. Questions
Questions about these terms may be directed through the Contact page.
