Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems receive routine technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring site, when one is available
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- The device’s assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic patterns, including popular pages and common exit points. Analytics services combine that activity into site-performance information. A browser can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some features work.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, sell, or compile a database of personal criminal records. The site identifies official sources for Lyon County records, including the Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to data submitted through those tools. We do not control those practices. Read the provider’s policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Lyon County Sheriff, Iowa court portals, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, that destination’s privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to observe activity across websites for targeted ads. Their tracking does not run under this policy.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

How We Protect Your Data

Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such data is identified, it will be deleted.

Iowa consumer-protection law, including Iowa Code chapter 714, may provide rights or remedies depending on the facts. Iowa Code chapters 22 and 692 govern government public records and criminal-history dissemination, but they do not convert this private site into a government custodian.
